Medical Certificate of Cause of Death ( MCCD)

When death occurs at home: You must contact the doctor of the deceased to inform them of the death. At this stage the doctor may come to the house or ask you to go to the surgery to obtain the certificate.

If death occurs at hospital: You must apply to the hospital for the certificate and not to the family doctor.

The Coroner: If a doctor cannot give a cause of death and issue the certificate the death is then reported to the Coroner who will then establish the cause of death.
